As the New Year approaches, so does the start of work on the Madison Street Bridge deck. On January 3, Frontier West crews will begin work on the northbound lanes of the Madison Street Bridge deck.

What does this mean for you?

Starting January 3, Frontier West anticipates delays on the Madison Street Bridge. Drivers are encouraged to plan additional travel time, especially from 7:00 am to 9:30am and 4pm to 6pm.

Why will there be delays?

Work will start on the northbound lanes of the Madison Street Bridge Deck. Those lanes must be closed during construction and the southbound lanes will be reconfigured to serve both northbound and southbound travelers. Unfortunately, the reduction of lanes will create traffic congestion and delays on the Madison Street Bridge. Please plan additional travel time or if possible, use an alternate route.

Will the underbridge stay open?

The pedestrian/bike underbridge below the Madison Street Bridge, which connects the river trail system, will be open until mid-spring. The trail system will remain open throughout the project with the exception of the trail access directly south east of the bridge.

The primary goal of the Madison Street Bridge Rehabilitation is to fix the bridge’s failing bridge deck. In addition to bridge deck repairs, the project features structural, aesthetic and multi-modality improvements such new lighting and railings, expanded and protected sidewalks as well as bike lanes. Work also includes repair of the bridge’s support structures.

The anticipated completion date for the Madison Street Bridge Rehabilitation project is August 2017, weather permitting.
