Fly Fishing Rods

The importance of quality in a fly rod cannot be understated. Most anglers will make between 500 and 1500 casts EACH day they spend fishing. Over a year of angling, that number can reach 10’s of thousands of casts. It is this reason that the rod you choose is so important. The Trail Head sticks with our Good, Better, Best philosophy by offering several levels of quality gear.

We have very good entry level rods from Reddington that will give you years of performance and allow you to pass that rod on to others as you progress in skills. Temple Fork Outfitters offer a variety of excellent quality rods to match the fishing situation or species that you pursue. With designers and consultants like; Lefty Kreh, Flip Pallot, Gary Loomis and more, the quality of the rod you are getting for your money is outstanding.

The premier line we offer and arguably the premier line in the world, is no other than Montana’s own R.L. Winston Rod Company. Winston’s are known throughout the world for their amazing combination of technology and performance. You have to cast one to know why they are the Ferrari of fly rods.

Come in and cast any one of our rods with our professional staff and let us help find the best fit for your needs.

The Trail Head is primarily a retailer and rental shop for fishing equipment however we do have a relationship with one of Montana’s Premier fly fishing Outfitters, Tom Jenni’s Reel Montana

Tom Jenni’s Reel Montana is one of Montana’s most versatile outfitting operations.  Tom has been a friend and customer of the Trail Head for 30 years and when we decided to add fishing as a category the decision about who to refer folks to for guided services was easy.

Tom has a corner in the shop that he runs his trips from and while he might be on a statewide road trip chasing fish, his presence and expertise are felt every day in the shop.  If you want to arrange a 5 day trip or just have an afternoon to fish close by Tom, his guides and The Trail Head can accommodate your needs.  He and his guides are on the water almost every day and have good solid information about current conditions.

The Trail Head can sell or rent you the tools for a do it yourself trip but if you would rather have someone who grew up in Missoula and has fished here for over 40 years, guide you we can make that happen too.
