Bitterroots:
Blodgett Canyon
43 Miles south of Missoula on Hwy 39,
near Hamilton. Waterfalls 7 miles roundtrip.
Longer pitches so bring two ropes. Some good sport climbs but double up on trad gear if you plan to climb the
1,200 foot walls
Kootenai Canyon 30 Southwest of Missoula on HWY 93
Missoula's most popular climbing destination for sport & traditional climbing. Great routes for all levels of climbers
Mulkey Gulch 45 miles east of Missoula on I-90. Take the Bearmouth exit and follow the frontage road. Most of the 30+ climbs are bolted but some climbs are bolted but some climbs rely on trad gear for back-up.
Rattler Gulch 48 miles east of Missoula on I-90. Take the Bearmouth exit and follow the frontage road for 13 miles. First limestone to be developed for climbing near Missoula. More sport than trad & great for beginners.
The Heap 34 miles from Missoula on US 12. After passing Lolo Hot Springs take a left on East Fork Lolo Creek Rd. Eight bolted routes. The best place for beginners in the Missoula Area.
Lolo Pass Most climbs are 35-45 miles SW of Missoula off US 12. Many rocks for all types of climbers. Most accessible from turnouts while driving up Lolo Pass. Best to have guide book.
Mill Creek Canyon
40 miles south of Missoula on US 93, one drainage north of Blodgett.
Don't come here without your trad gear. Some challenging with SW exposure.

Beaver Creek:
Refrigerator
Canyon Area
30 miles NE of Helena in the
Big Belt Mountains.
Semi-alpine climbing with easy approaches. Well protected limestone slab, pockets and cracks. Car camping along the creek is plentiful.
Homestake Pass
Climbs on East and West sides of Homestake Pass off I-90. 10-22 miles east of Butte. Shorter climbs (40'-60') on developed crags with easy approaches and a good mixture of difficulty. Camping near Homestake Lake.
Humbug Spires 26 miles south of
Butte on I-15.
Over 50 spires offer a variety of single and multi-pitch traditional climbing routes. Take two ropes for longer rappels. Camping at Moose Creek trailhead and at the base of the Wedge.
Lake Koocanusa North of US 93 past Kalispell and south west on 37 to the Lake. A variety of rocks. Most is bolted and many climbs are top-ropable. Free Forest Service camping nearby.
Sheep Mountain 15 miles SE of Helena above Lump Gulch. Several mixed routes on high quality granite face and crack climbs. Camping available at the trailhead parking area.
Spire Rock
16 miles east of Butte on I-90 and 5 miles north on Forest Service Road 222 to
Delmoe Lake.
Climbing for everyone. Sport, traditional, and mixed climbing on excellent granite from 30' to 100'. Climbing right at turnoff for Spire Rock.

  Bozeman:
Gallatin Canyon
20 miles from Bozeman on US 191. The limestone get better the farther you
go into the canyon. Bring two ropes and
a good selection of mixed gear.
Lots of camping in the area.
Bozeman:
Hyalite Canyon
10 miles outside of Bozeman
The canyon is a popular destination for
trad climbers with several crack,
face, and chimney climbs.
Lots of camping in the area
City of Rocks, Idaho Southern Idaho, near Almo
and Oakley, 15 miles from
the Utah border.
Over 2,000 climbs to please just about anyone. Plenty of campsites but not a bad idea to reserve on the weekends.
"The Castles" is being bolted, so there
are hundreds of of new climbs now open.
Red Rocks, Nevada Located outside Las Vegas,
climb by day--
party by night.
Red Rocks offers a wide variety of climbs
both single and multi pitch. Plenty
of camping too. Bring a guide!
Smith Rock, Oregon
Located in central Oregon
about 17 miles north
of Bend.
A sport climbing mecca that offers a fair
number of traditional climbs as well.
Tent camping available at the park but
plan on having neighbors during
the spring and summer months.

Bass Creek 30 miles south of Missoula on Hwy 93 The climbing is a few miles
in but that keeps the
crowds away.
Blodgett Canyon 44 miles south of Missoula on Hwy 93

A popular Missoula
destination on the North
Facing side of the Canyon.
Expect a crowd

during a cold snap.

Mission Falls 40 miles north of Missoula on Hwy 93 near
St. Ignatius.
Ice can be great Nov-
March depending on the
weather. Make sure you
have a tribal permit.
