Avalanche Awareness Presentation With Steve Karkanen Image

Do you know what to look for in the backcountry to keep you safe in the winter? Do you spend time up high, playing in the snow? The Rocky Mountaineers are having a presentation Tuesday, December 11th at 7P.M. here in the store. Steve Karkanen of the West Central Montana Avalanche Foundation will give an informative power point talk about safe travel in the backcountry.  Steve is an avalanche specialist for the Forest Service and spends much of his winter in the backcountry, digging pits and assessing the avalanche danger. His and other forecasters reports can be viewed at the WCMAF website.

This presentation is presented by the Rocky Mountaineers and is a great primer for people wanting to learn more about traveling safely in avalanche terrain. Steve will discuss the methods to use in the field to make an educated decision whether an area is safe to travel or not.  As well as the the tools to use to gather the data. So come on down and learn something in this free presentation, our staff will be on hand to answer questions on gear too.
